Healthy Eating Week 2019

Earlier this summer the Get Healthy Rotherham team took part in the British Nutrition Foundation (BNF) Healthy Eating Week. Each day we completed a new challenge:

Have breakfast - helping to get the day off to a good start by providing some of the energy and nutrients the body needs for good health. Having breakfast may also help stave off hunger and reduce snacking on less healthy foods.

Have 5 A DAY - it’s really important to have at least 5 A DAY as fruit and vegetables provide a range of different vitamins and minerals needed for health, as well as fibre which is important for the digestive system.

Drink Plenty - the body is about 60% water and this is needed for many different functions, so it is important to drink plenty throughout the day (at least 6-8 unsweetened drinks a day) to avoid dehydration.

Get Active - physical activity is beneficial because it can help maintain energy balance; improve heart health and strengthen muscles and bones; improve sleep, relieve stress and lift mood.

Sleep Well - most adults need 7-9 hours of good quality sleep at night to function at their best. Regular lack of sleep can affect health, making people more vulnerable to colds and infections. Sleep is also important for cognitive skills such as communicating well, memory and creative thinking.

We really enjoyed completing these challenges and thinking of ways as a team of how we can improve our health.
