'Today is the Day' to kick the habit!

We are supporting the new stop smoking campaign ‘Today is the Day’, launched by Action on Smoking and Health (ASH), for smokers to ‘quit today’ to protect themselves from smoking related diseases and increased risk of severe illness from COVID-19.

This new campaign also coincides with the launch of Get Healthy Rotherham’s new Quick Text initiative which allows would-be quitters in Rotherham to contact the service and self-refer by simply texting the word QUIT to 84222.

Since the pandemic began, more than 90,000 people have stopped smoking in the Yorkshire & Humber region, according to new analysis by ASH and University College London.

Rotherham smokers wishing to join these quitters can access FREE support from our smoking cessation programme, which is available for people aged over 18 who are living in Rotherham. The programme includes weekly telephone support and free stop smoking products, including Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT), which are currently being provided either through direct mail or via a local pharmacy.

Get Healthy Rotherham’s Service Manager, Jacqui Reddick, is happy to support the campaign.  She said: “Our region has seen huge amounts of people stopping smoking since the pandemic began, which is really encouraging news to hear.  There has never been a more important time to look after your health, and we remain dedicated to helping even more people in Rotherham give up smoking for good.

“We would like to reassure people that we are still here providing a free service, and we encourage anyone thinking about stopping smoking to contact us to help get the right support they need. To make contacting our service even easier, we now have a new Quick Text service where people can text the word QUIT to 84222 and one of our advisors will get in touch.”

Anyone interested in stopping smoking in Rotherham can now text QUIT to 84222. You can also self-refer via this website or call 01709 718720 (lines open 9am - 6pm Monday to Friday and 9am - 2pm every Saturday). For additional information visit www.todayistheday.co.uk
