Reduce your stress and quit smoking this No Smoking Day

Today it’s national No Smoking Day - and this year’s ‘Today is the Day’ key message is that quitting smoking doesn’t have to be stressful.

Research shows that smokers who quit for 6 weeks or more are happier and experience less anxiety and depression than those who carry on smoking.

Rotherham smokers wishing to quit this No Smoking Day can also access free support from our smoking cessation programme, which is available for people aged over 18 who are living in Rotherham. The programme includes weekly telephone support and free stop smoking products, including Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT), which are currently being provided either through direct mail or via a local pharmacy.

Get Healthy Rotherham’s Service Manager, Jacqui Reddick, says: “There has never been a more important time to look after your mental and physical health. While quitting can feel stressful in the short term, new research shows that many ex-smokers' mental health improves six weeks after quitting, and getting the right support and stop smoking aids can really help with this.

“We would like to reassure people this No Smoking Day that we are still here providing a free service, and we encourage anyone thinking about stopping smoking to contact us to help get the right support they need - remember stopping smoking doesn’t have to be stressful!”
