Get Portion Wise!

When we talk about having a healthy balanced diet we not only need to think about what we are eating but also how much. However, it can be hard to know what the right amount of food actually is.

This week the British Nutrition Foundation (BNF) has released an update to their advice ‘Get Portion Wise.’ This advice was first published in 2019 and this year the BNF have been evaluating this guidance to see how helpful people thought it was. They have made updates to make it clearer and included advice on how to put it into practice.  They have also updated some of the measures and included a wider range of foods to the list.

This British Nutrition Foundation recognises that we are all individuals with different needs and have written this guidance in a way that can be adapted for each person. Even though the guidelines are for someone to have 2000 kcal a day, which meets the needs of an average sized woman, they can easily be adapted for someone who is more active, taller or wanting to lose weight. They have also made sure the guidance is easy to use, for example, the measures given for food is not only in grams but also using hand measures.
