Race Against Hunger

On Saturday 2 April 2022, supporters from all around the UK came together to Race Against Hunger to raise money with the goal to end the need for food banks.

People across the UK took part in their own 5k routes, including us at Get Healthy Rotherham. Our team took the task of completing a 5k course that started and finished at Hope centre food bank in Rotherham. Our team members both walked and ran the 5k and raised money for The Trussell Trust. Our route included walking through Boston Park and down through Canklow Woods before looping round back up to the food bank. Luckily the weather held up for us and we were treated to blue skies and the sun shining!

Between 1 April 2021 and 30 September 2021 more than 5,100 emergency food parcels were provided on average to people across the UK every day, by food banks in the Trussell Trust network. Almost 2,000 of these were provided for children.

The event included stalls run by members of the community selling items such as cakes and wax melts. The money made was donated to The Trussell Trust and this will go towards the food banks.

Ourselves at Get Healthy Rotherham also ran a stall with some of our team members staying behind from the 5k and educating the community about the services we offer and even signing some of you up! It has been a hard 2 years where we have not been able to go out into the community, so to be able to do something like this again was a fantastic feeling for all of us involved.
