What exactly is a NHS Health Check?
The NHS Health Check is a free assessment of your overall health for people aged between 40 and 74. Its purpose is to spot the early signs of a variety of long term health conditions such as stroke, kidney disease, dementia and type 2 diabetes.
Am I eligible for a NHS Health Check?

The NHS provides an online Heart Health assessment which is available free of charge, here.

What takes place at a NHS Health Check?
Your NHS Health Check will take about 20-30 minutes. During the check you will:
- Be asked simple questions about the medication you take and your family history
- Have your height and weight measured, aloing with your age, sex and ethnicity
- Have your blood pressure taken
- Have a simple fingerprick blood test
- Have your risk of developing cardiovascular disease calculated
- Have personalised lifestyle advice unique to your circumstances provided
At the end of your appointment, your NHS Health Check results will be sent to your GP and added to your clinical record.
